Armando Raúl MAYORA, siendo reabastecidos de combustible en vuelo por un avión KC-130 de la Fuerza Aérea, atacan con misiles AM-39 Exocet al destructor HMS Sheffield, que navegaba en latitud 52º 48' S, long. 57º 40' W. De resultas de este ataque el Sheffield fue hundido. La fuerza naval inglesa que integraba ese buque había sido localizada por el avión Neptune 2-P-112, al mando del capitán de corbeta Ernesto PRONI LESTON. Fue la primera acción de guerra con medios aéreos de la Armada Argentina, que resultaron victoriosos contra una potencia enemiga y el primer buque británico echado a pique por fuerzas argentinas.

Al regreso de esa misión, pista y condiciones meteorológicas muy adversas le ocasionan problemas en el aterrizaje al capitán ZUBIZARRETA, quien fallece al eyectarse cuando el avión se iba de pista.

Los aviones navales lanzaron un misil AM-39 Exocet, cuyo impacto en el portaaviones fue confirmado por los pilotos de la Fuerza Aérea, que lo atacaron con bombas de 500 libras. El Invencible resultó averiado. Dos aviones A-4-C fueron derribados.

Los aviones navales lanzaron un misil AM-39 Exocet, cuyo impacto en el portaaviones fue confirmado por los pilotos de la Fuerza Aérea, que lo atacaron con bombas de 500 libras. El Invencible resultó averiado.
